Find crazy color, a fun, boho asthetic and accessible price points in artist Stephanie Corfee's shop. Art is no fun if you can't afford it!
Intricacy of detail and bold, brave colors are Stephanie's calling cards. Her work is usually composed of one or all of the following; fine detail, high contrast, bold color, balanced curves and forms. It is at once bohemian and wild, and meticulous and restrained. It's just like her...a mirror to her true self.
The first 10 to convo her saying "StylMag" will get a free print with a purchase. Simply let her know which of the two prints you have your hearts for, and she'll create a custom listing for you. The free print will be the one with the equal/lesser value.
Yup! Let's go with Amy, the Vancouver web designer behind Field Trip, who is captivated by all things handmade and design. Making posters gives her an opportunity to create and share the world through her own lens - the pixel.
From now until the end of April purchase two posters and your second one is 50% off (simply mention "stylmagazine" in the notes to seller at checkout). Refund will be sent after payment is received.
We felt like Alice in a different kind of wonderland when we stumbled into Gizem Vural's whimsical drawings of circle-blushed, bob-haired girls, mushrooms on her head, and birds tweeting love notes. See her land comes alive on her blog, or hop on over to her Etsy shop, Gecesintisi, for prints. If you buy either Ballerina Legs or Poisoned Girl, she'll give you a sketch work of your choice that are in her shop for free.
We love Vana's representational drawings, seamlessly merging travel, architecture and art. Her drawings are available as prints in her Etsy shop, aptly named Arkitektur, mostly done while visiting these magnificent places.
Wouldn't you just want to have them all? I know I would!
Bespoke Press opened an invitation to aspiring illustrators back in May and, "10800 foot treadled impressions, 1800 sheets of cotton paper and 30 new ink colours later," they have now launched these 10 new prints in their shop! I would hasten you to get in there quick, because each print is a limited edition run of only 150 prints.
If you're feeling lucky, enter your name in their giveaway for a chance to win all ten. Oh, you know I'm heading over there right now to enter my name in. :) There will only be one winner though, so in the unlikely event that I do not win, wanna know which ones I'd love to have?
One of our contributing writers, Megan Eckman (hello Megan!), wrote me about her new work over at her studio, Studio M.M.E.. I went over to have a peek, and loved what I found.
Megan has teamed up with Catherine (Cat) Ivins of Polarity, transforming her artwork into magnetized art necklaces that you can change on a whim.
Isn't it great when two very talented individuals work together in collaboration? When each one has their own set of skills, their coming together fuses them and a new creation emerges that may not have been possible otherwise. I find it very alluring and truly in the spirit of indie.
As I begin to reflect on working on STYL(mag) as a full time job (and it has slowly started to sink in), I thought of the many mags and blogs out there already in existence and in full force, some of which I personally enjoy reading myself. I do like to think of them as my colleagues rather than competition.
Wouldn't you like to see your favorite shops and designers teaming up with one another, or do you know any who are already doing so and creating products that just wows you? If you're a business owner yourself, would a collab suit your business approach?
"...the positive response in my Polarity shop for my new artist series of lockets has amazed me. Promoting and supporting other artists has a way of working its way back to you in surprising ways."
I was recently researching for factoids on carnivals and carousels for an article, and couldn't resist searching for imagery too. I remember vividly an imagery of my childhood, upon entering an indoor attraction, the first thing I saw was a grand carousel at the very center.
Now looking at these beautiful prints from two fine art photographers, I was transported back to the realm of make-believe.
The carousel seemed to have had both children and adults alike entranced since its very beginnings in Europe. Now some 400 years later, we are still in awe at the sight of it.
I couldn't get enough of Lori Earley's elongated, deeply enchanting portraits. One could almost look into the eyes of each femme fatale and wonder what has held you so captive. Was it the emotional story into their arcane world? Or was it their ethereal gaze?
Her highly anticipated solo exhibition is on 16 October '09 at the Opera Gallery in London, England. If you're close by, maybe you can meet these ladies 'in person'. Perhaps then you'll find your answer.
Here's a gem hailing from the Perth, Western Australia that I was perusing via a link sent to me by my dear sister (thanks, Adek!). The first things that caught my eye were her paperdoll illustrations, aptly named Paper Doll Project. Childlike and a little chubby, why not let her transform you into a paper doll?
She shares more of her sketches on her blog, and illustrations and experimental works on her online portfolio. She's also on Etsy and Myspace.
After having perused several design blogs (the ones in English, naturally) for a while now, I got quite curious what the folks in Czech are up to when it comes to design and decor. So I did a search for 'Czech design blog', but somehow landed here instead.
Terry... who? And what's this with his socks anyway?
The name of the shop „Terry Posters" is connected with repeated visits of the famous director Terry Gilliam, a member of the legendary group Monty Python, in Aero cinema. During one of his visits in autumn 1999, when Terry Gilliam was having a discussion with the cinema audience, all the persistent questioning might have made him take off his boots. Barefooted with his socks exposed he finished the discussion. This legendary moment was captured on nowadays just as legendary photo of Terry in his socks.
During the preparation phase of opening the shop and looking for a suitable name we have come across this far-back story. We asked Terry to let us name our shop Terry Posters after his socks and he kindly agreed. Also when shooting his film The Grimm Brothers which took place in the Czech Republic he popped in here and ceremoniously opened this shop on November 10, 2005. Under a slight pressure he endowed us with one of his socks (with a doggie application) which has been - together with his hand-written inscription - exhibited in front of our shop ever since. Thus Terry Gilliam has become a godfather of Terry Posters shop.
These are some of the ones that I liked from their 'Best Of' collection as selected by curator Pavel Rajčan. There are over 5000 contemporary posters that you can find there, most are for sale except for the one-off pieces that they are keeping for their own collection. Neat, aren't they?
